Samantha Jones, Ph.D.

Samantha (Sam) Jones, Ph.D., is a science writer based in San Diego. Sam grew up in the Boston area as an avid Red Sox fan and lover of lobster. She escaped developing a Boston accent, although she has been asked to do one by most people she meets. In 2011, after graduating from Vassar College in New York, she moved to Kansas City to accept a position as a research technician studying the role of stem cells in the remarkable regenerative capacity of non-parasitic flatworms at the Stowers Institute for Medical Research. Two years later, Sam moved west to begin her Ph.D. in the Biomedical Sciences program at the University of California San Diego, from which she graduated in June, 2018. Her research focused on the  RNA-related changes that underlie neurological disease. Now post-PhD, Sam is working toward a future that involves increasing public science literacy through education and conversation.
