Wendy L. Patrick, Ph.D. is a career trial attorney, media commentator, and expert in criminal law, named the Ronald M. George Public Lawyer of the Year by the California State Bar’s Public Law Section. She has been recognized by her peers as one of the Top Ten criminal attorneys in San Diego by the San Diego Daily Transcript. She has completed over 150 trials ranging from hate crimes, to domestic violence, to first-degree murder.
In her current assignment as a deputy district attorney in the Special Operations Division, she handles cases involving sensitive issues, including threat assessment. She is also President of the San Diego Chapter of the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals (ATAP) and an ATAP Certified Threat Manager. In her prior assignment she prosecuted cases involving sexual assault, child molestation, human trafficking, and sexually violent predators. She began her career as a criminal defense attorney and is well versed in criminal law and advocacy from both sides of the aisle.
Dr. Patrick has over 2,000 media appearances. She appears on CNN, Fox News Channel, Fox Business Network, HLN, and a wide variety of national and international programs. Dr. Patrick also specializes in business ethics and teaches upper division courses at San Diego State University. She had her own ethics column in the San Diego Daily Transcript for more than a decade, and teaches ethics nationally on a regular basis. She has been quoted in a variety of sources including USA Today, US News and World Report, Washington Post, Associated Press, Bloomberg Businessweek, CSNBC, CNN.com, and The Christian Science Monitor, and has appeared as an expert commentator on many media programs, locally and nationally, discussing issues concerning business ethics.
Bringing a well-rounded perspective to her commentary, Dr. Patrick is author of Red Flags: How to Spot Frenemies, Underminers, and Ruthless People (St. Martin´s press), and co-author of the New York Times bestseller Reading People (revision, Random House). She has a Master of Divinity degree summa cum laude from Bethel Seminary, and a PhD in Theology from the University of Wales.
