Diana Raab Ph.D.

Diana Raab, Ph.D., is an expert in helping others transform and become empowered through creativity, especially writing. She is a memoirist, poet, blogger, essayist, educator and facilitates workshops in writing for healing and transformation. She holds a Ph.D. in Psychology with a concentration in Transpersonal Psychology, and a research focus on the healing and transformative powers of memoir writing.

Her book, Writing for Bliss: A Seven-Step Plan for Telling Your Story and Transforming Your Life is forthcoming in 2017 by Loving Healing Press. She is the author of two memoirs, Regina’s Closet: Finding My Grandmother’s Secret Journal, winner of the 2009 Mom’s Choice Award, and Healing With Words: A Writer’s Cancer Journey; four collections of poetry, including Lust ; one self-help book, Your High Risk Pregnancy, winner of the 1992 Benjamin Franklin Award, and the editor of two anthologies, Writers and Their Notebooks, winner of the 2011 Eric Hoffer Award and Writers on The Edge. She has written over 500 self-help articles on the subjects of journaling, memoir, psychology and health, and poems, published and anthologized in national publications, such as Rattle, The Writer, Boiler Room Journal, The Writer, Everyday Health, Breast Cancer Wellness Magazine, he Qualitative Report, The Journal of Transpersonal Psychology, The International Journal of Transpersonal Psychology, and numerous anthologies. Her poem, "desperation" was nominated for a Pushcart Prize in 2013. 

A Brooklyn native, Diana Raab discovered the healing power of writing, when at the age of 10, her mother gave her a Kahlil Gibran journal to help her cope with her beloved grandmother’s suicide. Diana began her career as a registered nurse and worked as a medical writer for over 25 years. In 2001 after a diagnosis with breast cancer, she combined her medical healing work and her journal writing in a self-help memoir, Healing With Words: A Writer’s Cancer Journey. She teaches self-empowerment through creative journaling, memoir writing and poetry in workshops around the country.

Diana holds a degree in Journalism and Health Administration from Cortland State University and an MFA in Creative Writing from Spalding University. She became a Ph.D in Psychology with a concentration in transpersonal psychology from The Institute of Transpersonal Psychology (a.k.a. Sofia University). Diana serves on the board of Poets & Writers and is a trustee at The University Califorinia Santa Barbara. In addition to blogging for PT, she blogs for The Huffington Post (HuffPost50) and PsychAlive. The proud mother of three amazingly amazing, empowered, and creative children, ages 26, 30, and 32, and two grandchildren, Diana currently resides in Southern California.
